Club pledges support to Breanna Medcalf

Earlier this year the Lake Currimundi-Kawana Lions had the privilege of meeting a remarkable young lady by the name of Breanna Medcalf. Breanna was born on 26 June 2002, a happy cheerful baby who always smiled and giggled.

After an initial misdiagnosis Breanna at 3 ½ years was diagnosed with having a severe spinal cord injury possibly from birth. Breanna and her mum Marie spoke at a dinner meeting where the members were moved by her story. Breanna plays the violin, sings in the choir, horse riding and is school captain.

Due to her condition Breanna needed a wheelchair that would also allow her to stand for 2 hours every day. When the Club met Peter, Marie and Breanna had raised $33,500 for the wheelchair without Government assistance. Now the funds for the wheelchair have been raised Marie and Peter focus is to set up a trust fund for Breanna so that she will always be taken care of in the future. The Lake Currimundi-Kawana Lions wanted to help and at the Changeover dinner, pledged $5000 towards Breannas trust fund and have agreed to provide ongoing financial support in 2013-14.

At the Committee Changeover Meeting in June the Club donated a further $2000 to Breanna's trust fund.

    Consider assisting your community

    Your New Year's resolution.
Perhaps it’s time today for you to make or reflect on your current New Year's resolution.

According to research I’ve undertaken, volunteering is the most common New Year’s resolution. Volunteering has been shown to improve your mental health, physical health and confidence. This can enhance your life and provide a sense of purpose. said Alice Cunningham Lions District Q 3 Membership chair.

Lions are a world-wide community based service organisation. We provide many opportunities to make a difference in your community. Examples of our community service projects are our Lions five Global Causes – childhood cancer, diabetes, environment, hunger & vision.

One of our District projects supporting childhood cancer is our annual Lions Camp Quality Christmas party. This party is held at the end of November on Bribie Island. Another is ‘Supermax & Bryce “. Lions are involved with raising money to donate a night light and other items to children recovering from cancer. Please read Bryce’s inspirational story at - https://www.supermaxandbryce.org/

You have the option of being one of our casual volunteers. You offer Lions a pair of hands for a project that suits your interest.

See a short list of our projects - https://201q3.lions.org.au/projects

Would you like to “pass it on” and help others less fortunate? Perhaps you will offer Lions some of your free time, knowledge and skills. Please contact a Lion member to discuss how you could assist.

LCIF Fundraiser - Australia's Campaign 100 Chairperson for LCIF, PCC Lou Onley, invites you to Follow Your Rainbow...

While practicing safe social distancing over the past few months, Lou let his usual neat number two hair style grow wild. In true Lions fashion, there's a greater good at play.

Before Lou cuts his hair, he wants you or your club to do two things:

    1. Donate to LCIF by 26 July 2020. How to donate - follow the link below to find out how to donate.

    2. Once you have donated, follow the second link to register your donation and vote for the colour you'd like to see on Lou's hair. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LCIFLou

The colour that receives the most votes will win and Lou has agreed to wear it for the month of August! Join the challenge and support Lions Clubs International Foundation.
